Several members of Monadnock Quaker Meeting are involved in mediation work. One of these is Kate Kerman. She works part time for Monadnock Family Services, a community mental health agency, as part of the Prevention and Community Outreach department. She is the coordinator of youth mediation programs, which include:
  • parent/youth mediation
  • circles of support and accountability which match adult and youth volunteers with at risk youth
  • peer mediation coordination for Keene High School in Keene, NH
  • coordination of a Safe School Ambassadors anti-bullying program, which teaches students simple methods of intervening in issues as they arise
  • Students for Peace club at Keene High School
Kate trained as a mediator in 1988 with the Friends Mediation Service, and used mediation frequently as a teacher and houseparent at The Meeting School from 1988-1996. Since then she has been a volunteer parent/youth mediator, and began working for Monadnock Family Services in 1999. She received her Masters in Instruction and Curriculum with a specialty in Peaceable Schools from Lesley University in May, 2007.
